Hello, I understand I need to use the equation c1v1=c2v2 to work out the concentration of Anti-puromycin 12D10 (0.5mg/ml) diluted by 1:1000 in PBS. However could somebody explain the equation to me in laymans term as its the first time Im doing this and struggling with it immensely.
I never use the equation to avoid dumb mistakes. I always do 2 steps:
Step 1: figure out the dilution factor (here 1:1000)
Step 2: apply it to your volume (or concentration)
0.5mg/ml=500ug/ml ---> after 1:1000 dilution your final concentration will be 0.5ug/ml (or 500ng/ml)
Now to prepare a 1liter (1000ml) solution you need 1000/1000=1 ml of 12D10 (0.5mg/ml) stock solution into 999ml of PBS to get the final 0.5ug/ml solution.
Hope this helps. With math there is often several ways to get to the right answer.
1000-1=999
1 ml of your stock diluted in 999 ml of PBS. and your final concentration will be
c1v1=c2v2
c2=c1v1/v2
c2=0.5mg/mlx1ml/1000ml
c2=0.5 microgram/ml
