I have conducted a mushroom cultivation trial for study purposes. I inoculated my substrate with oyster mushroom spawn about a month ago. Now, it has completed the incubation period. There is a good mushroom run on my substrate, but I also got some contamination with green mold. So, I want to treat my mushroom substrates. Are there any control measures regarding this issue? Please suggest.
Its batter to remove that contaminated parts which show green molds growth. use sterilized equipment's in cropping room .
In my own opinion, seeing the growth of a green mold in a mushroom substrate(medium) bag can be compared to the growth of the green mold on an agar(medium) plate. Nothing can be done but to either separate the substrate bag(s) from the rest and allow the ramifying mycelia of the mushroom to grow or it is discarded by burying it so that the spores of the green mold will not spread to other substrate bags through sporulation.
Scrapping off the contaminated part cannot totally stop the growth of the green mold because the extent to which it's mycelia have grown cannot be determined since it's majorly microscopic. The growth of the green mold might still resume even after scraping off the green patches. Moreso, opening the substrate bag(s) might introduce another form of contamination into the bag.
It can be difficult to treat green mould contamination in mushroom substrate. Try removing problematic regions, enhance fresh air exchange, and maintain proper humidity. Think about incorporating baking soda or hydrogen peroxide into the substrate. Better sterilisation procedures may need to be followed if contamination continues, necessitating discarding and starting over with fresh substrate.
First, start by cleaning your inoculation site or changing it. Also, try to locate the source of contamination at each sterilization step. good luck
