In ANSYS Fluent, particles are tracked in a Lagrangian frame using DPM. I am trying to track the KCl particle trajectory of 10 microns in an STR by injecting them from a certain height.
Here are my few questions:
a) What mass flow rate should I set?
b) How can we validate simulation results experimentally? Should not particles dissolve in water in a real system as KCl is highly soluble in water (about 35 g / 100 mL at 20 C)?
I read a few papers in which different kind of particles has been simulated but I am wondering how could they validate their results.

First of all, after verifying your case the validation is done by picking a case where reference experimental (or DNS data) are available for and not the opposite. This is because the experiment is much more difficult and expensive to set up than the simulation.
- That said, your input mass flow rate should correspond to the case in hand.
- Not sure what you mean by "different kind of particles", but if you mean particle size or density that's fine. What these papers probably use to validate their results is Stokes number (i.e. St= tau_p/tau_f). In that context, if you have the same range of Stokes numbers then it doesn't matter what density/diameter you use for particles as long as you still lie in the "low-particle-loading" region. You also have to keep in mind that fluid timescale matters more if you have turbulent-driven particles (turbulent diffusion force is as/more dominant than drag).
