I did a synthesis of a carbonyl ruthenium complex coordinated with the 1H-imidazole-1-ylacetic acid, but I'm having problems in the purification process. All the mixture is only slightly soluble in methanol, so purification for classic chromatography is unreliable. Acid or basic addition to a water solution of this mixture does not produce any change in solubility or precipitation. Any suggestions are welcome.
What is the melting/boiling points? You might be able to do some fractional distillation. Have you tried other solvents?
I've already tried methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, acetonitrile, DMSO, DMF, dichloromethane, acetone, chloroform, and ethyl acetate. The mixture is slightly soluble in methanol and DMSO, more soluble in DMF, and soluble in water. Distillation is not an option, because this kind of compounds are known for not being stable in high temperatures (over 100 ºC)
