The SF-12v2 is a popular health survey designed to evaluate both mental and physical well-being. Specifically, it produces a Physical Component Summary (PCS) and a Mental Component Summary (MCS) (MCS).
Here are the steps you can take to score your SF-12v2:
Compute the unweighted mean of your raw scores in the eight categories of interest (PF = physical functioning; RP = role-physical; BP = bodily pain; GH = general health; VT = vitality; SF = role-social; RE = role-emotional; MH = mental health) (MH).
The raw scores must be converted into a PCS and MCS using the scoring algorithms described in the SF-12v2 manual. The PCS and MCS use different weights in their linear combination of the raw scores from each domain, which forms the basis of the scoring algorithms.
Both the PCS and MCS have been normalized so that the mean is 50 and the standard deviation is 10. When the score is higher, the person's health is better.
It's worth noting that different SF-12 versions may utilize somewhat different scoring algorithms and may include slightly different domains or topics. So, it is advised to employ the handbook that is in line with the version being scored.@brandon Lim
