Can anyone tell me a technique or method on how to remove the plasma sprayed zirconia topcoat from the thermal barrier coating sample, but not damage the surface morphology and microstructure of the underlying metallic bondcoat?
You put the sample in a 20-30% HCl solution and the topcoat will replace in a few minutes from the bond coat. After the sample of the acid clean rinse - done. In the short time in acid is the bond coat only superficially attacked.
Hi, Dr Vadim Verlotski. Thanks for your answer. I am afraid that the HCl solution may infiltrate in the bond coat along the splats gaps once the top coat separation, since the APS-bond coat is relatively porous. Anyway, I will try. Thanks again!
