I have 1500 liters of acetic acid. Sodium content is 0.7 ppm and calcium content is 0.3 ppm. The acceptable limit is 0.2 ppm for sodium content and 0.1 ppm for calcium content. Is there any reagent/ ligand/ chemical which I can add in acetic acid and decrease my sodium and calcium content?

let me answer this interesting technical question too. In this case I would suggest a simple distillation at atmospheric pressure instead of adding any reagents. This will safely remove all sodium and calcium without the risk of adding further contaminants. Good luck with your work!
Your Na and Ca content is already very low and the amount of liquid very large (1500 L). Have you considered using a column filled with a very pure (rinse it extra with acid) cation-exchanger.

Dear Virendra, thanks for your kind response and question. Yes, both sodium and calcium will be present in ionic form, i.e. in the presence of salts (chlorides, acetates etc.). These salts are not volatile and cannot be distilled. They can also not spread throughout the distillate stream, because during the distillation you only evaporate the acetic acid and condensate the vapor again. Thus distillation under atmospheric pressure is an absolutely safe methods to separate the acid from all ionic impurities, especially when you use a distillation column.

After second distillation distillate shows sodium content 0.2 ppm and calcium content 0.2 ppm. It has not reduced much. secondly, our target is sodium content less than 0.2 ppm and calcium content 0.1 ppm. Thus we are seeking any other thought to achieve our target.
