I have a question that may seem so simple to most of you. Actually, I have used a MF-Millipore Membrane Filter, mixed cellulose esters with a 0.45 micron pore size to collect my sample from a suspension. Then I put it in a petri dish full of acetone and added deionized water but it has changed into a paste like material and now I do not know how to remove the filter itself!
Can Anybody HELP me?
Acetone is not recommended for cellulose ester filter!
However, in your experiment, water acts as a non-solvent for the dissolve cellulose ester. Therefore, by addition of water "phase inversion" phenomenon has happened.
Howbeit, I recommend drying the material in an oven and then dissolving the residue in acetone! and finally recovering the the sample by gentrification, precipitation, liquid-liquid extraction, etc.
