One of the delightful features of DMSO as a solvent is that it is highly soluble in water. It is usually possible to remove it from an organic product by aqueous extraction using, say, ethyl acetate as the the organic phase. Problems arise when your organic product (1) is water soluble, or (2) is not soluble in organic solvents. In such cases I have successfully removed DMSO by lyophilization. However, many water soluble organics can strongly bind to DMSO so it can be a lengthy process.
