We have cake with 45% LOD. We are drying it under vacuum first in VTD and then in RCVD. Still we are not able to reduce Total residual solvent below 1000PPM. One of the reasons is very sticky or lumpy nature of the cake. We can not even mill it because of such nature. How can we reduce this TRS level? Is there any new drying technology for such lumpy solids?

It sounds like you need to start over and review what you have learnt. It sounds challenging one you have got half way by a process that did not deliver what you needed. It is difficult to recommend a process without knowing how much cake you have and which solvent(s) you were using. In addition, the nature of the filter cake and/or the residue caught within it could be signiificant factors in trapping the solvent. As a general guide it the greater the surface area of the cake, then the more chance you have to dry it, but I'm sure you knew that already! By way of an alternative, if your current solvent does not dry well, can you wash it out with another solvent that will dry more easily?
