Dear researchers, Ive synthesized nanoparticles that have a high pH (around 10 or more) I need to use them for the adsorption of Nd3+ and Pr3+. What is the best method to reduce their pH without causing aggregation or affecting their adsorption capacity ?
Are there specific stabilizing agents or post-synthesis treatments you would recommend for me please?

Particles do not have a pH, but the particle dispersion have. Probably the dispersions maybe stabilized by polymers before reducing their pH.
To reduce nanoparticle pH without causing aggregation, gradually adjust pH using mild acids like citric acid while simultaneously employing stabilizers such as citrate ions or PEG polymers to maintain colloidal stability. This method prevents sudden charge neutralization and preserves adsorption capacity effectively.

If you use the citric acide , we have here fonctionalization " charge surface will be changed', I advice you to use nitric acide .
The surface charge of metal oxides in aqueous solution during synthesis can be either positive or negative depending on the pKa.
To selectively adsorb Nd³⁺ and Pr³⁺ ions, your metal oxide nanoparticles should be synthesized in a pH region where the surface charge becomes negative.
After the adsorption reaction of Nd³⁺ and Pr³⁺ ions on the positively charged nanoparticles is complete, if the measured zeta potential shifts to a nearly neutral but slightly positive value upon adsorption of Nd and Pr ions, the dispersion stability can be improved by reacting with citrate or by applying a small amount of PEG treatment. However, the optimal conditions must be carefully determined.
