We cannot understand culture fully or correctly without understanding the people who create and sustain it. Some traditions are deeply rooted, shaped and sustained by geographical conditions, natural cycles, or limitations; in that case, you can try talking to a geologist about the region. Also the bond between ancient traditions and younger generations are often weakened, erased or transformed as a result of modernism and industrialisation. In that case, sociology can provide useful perspectives to your research. I often find that the key point is the function of the tradition that the research focuses on. Why is this tradition important? What kind of function does it serve? What is it helping, or what is it preventing? When you find answers to these questions, then your cooperative disciplines will be revealed I think.
