While conducting an arthrospira plantensis' culture in the laboratory for thirty days, in small culrure vessels of one liter each, using light intensity of 203 µmol.m-2.s-1 we noticed an important reduction of the culture wich we hope was due to evaporation. Can someone help us know how to avoid this?
As long as you use a cap or anything to cover the top ending of flasks or vessels, no evaporation loss will occur.
If you are injecting air with a high gas flow rate into the culture, small droplets of water go out of the vessel and more culture volume reduction will be observed.
Also, using caps or foils to cover vessel's top can protect culture from contaminations too.
In addition to covering the bottles, it is not possible to prevent completely the loss of liquid medium, due the evaporation. When working with crops for a long time, it is necessary to recompose the medium, by adding each 10 days. This procedure also helps to maintain nutrients for cells development.
