In general, if you have the choice, prepare your standard in the same solvent (or mix) that you use for your samples. In the ideal case, that would be similar as the mobile phase of the HPLC method used.

you have a wide range of solvents that can be used, personally, I have used MTBE for the preparation of lycopene samples and standard.
