Any ideas about defect detection method/approach as to pre-QC the nitrocellulose membrane used for lateral flow immunoassay, non-destructive way?
Many other industries use a hand held device to shine the infrared through the object surface i.e. glass, for any defects, etc. Just wondering if that could apply to use with the nitrocellulose membrane for lateral flow.
Anything to share here would be really appreciated.

Well, based on my understanding, I would like to share whatever I know about it. I am actually, calculating its protein binding and holding capacity by our own developed method. its time consuming and tricky but definitely useful as a QC Standard as well as for stability testing too. But it also depends on how you procure Nitro cellulose membrane, either in roll form or with backing sheets. You can also study and standardize its hydrophobic behavior in accelerated parameters because degradation of NCM makes it hydrophobic in nature. ( Hydrophobic behavior can be different for different manufacturer too, so can't assure you for this study results)

Thanks for the tip Hitesh, though it would be more practical when we talk about manufacturing. I was thinking for something like, non-destructive method, shining e.g. Infrared through a whole NCM laminated backing card so that you are able to see the good portion different/distinguishable from the bad portion and that could be considered defects. I think people do that using the device called thermo camera with other object surfaces such as glass, fiber. etc. looking for defects, not sure if it can be applied to the nitro.
Dear Jongkit, Thanks a lot for your further explanation. I was presuming about the RM QC of NCM. Well, during my last audit visit to CHINA, I saw some automated strip manufacturing units where they have installed such cameras which were observing and eliminating the defected strips during the production assembly line. I do not know if they were thermo camera but I will inquire and will share the contact/details with you if found something interesting as per your requirements.
