I need to expand one horse shoe shape geometry. I give displacement loading at its both end to expand the gap between two ends. I used loadstep file to perform this

i selected nodes of corresponding ends and provide the displacement.

Loadstep 2
Case i-
Delete the previous displacement at nodes of both end of geometry.

select modes of corresponding ends and set displacement 0
Case ii

Delete the previous displacement at nodes of both end of geometry
I want to see the elstic strain recovery and residual strain at end of load step 2 after the elastic recovery when displacement load is removed.
Now, i am confused in case (i) and case (ii) .

The meaning of "delete the previous displacement" is somewhat vague. If the loadstep 2 finishes with zero reactions at both ends, this will be unloading. Otherwise, if it finishes with zero displacements at both ends, I completely agree with Claudio, this will be two way loading (not unloading). .
