I've modeled a multi story frame (MSF) with a TMD subjected to seismic acceleration in ABAQUS and SAP2000 using modal dynamics. The frequency analysis is the same for both programs. However, tracking the displacement of the top floor does not converge. It seems as ABAQUS does not consider the viscous of the auxiliary mass (TMD). The results of the MSF with defining only the stiffness of the TMD are the same.
Hi Ismail Amara , could you please tell more about the analysis step that you are using? Also what elements did you use to model the damper in your system?
Hi Pranoy Nair Pranoy Sureshbabu Nair , Step-1 is linear perturbation (Frequency) for mode shapes and Step-2 is linear perturbation (modal dynamics). And, I have assigned all masses required for the analysis (structure mass and tuned mass).
The element I've utilized to model damper is Springs/Dashpots from engineering features.
Ismail Amara , are you using sim based architecture in the *Frequency step? Else it will not take the damping from the elements and material if you use the traditional solver. Use " *FREQUENCY, SIM, DAMPING PROJECTION=ON" then it will carry forward the damping matrix in the modal dynamic step also.
