It is all in the title. I added a preprint when my paper was accepted but in press. Then, I added the published article on my profile. Surprisingly, RG does not merge them automatically. Is there a way to do it by myself?

The "Help" section of Research Gate gives the following answer (the most important for your question part is at the end):
ResearchGate automatically merges publications where all information is identical, including title, date of publication, author list, and journal. Please note that if you have added both of the publications yourself or if the publication information is not identical in every way, they will not be merged automatically. Additionally, if one of the publications has a DOI, or both publications have different DOIs, we also don't merge them automatically.
You can edit your publication’s details by following these steps:
Please note: We don’t merge articles with their linked data or preprints. We encourage our members to upload their work during all stages of the publication process, so we consider these to be separate research items. Items with a ResearchGate DOI also won't be merged.

Thank you for your message. As you said, the last sentence answered my question: ResearchGate considers preprints and published papers as different research items and therefore does not merge them. Alright.

Delete the preprint. Also, you need not to add published article manually. RG will automatically detect if the journal is present in their index list. A manually added article and an automatically detected article merges. But preprint and article will not.

Hi,
some days ago a preprint I had uploaded on RG has been accepted for publication. I could not link it to the published version since there was no DOI, yet. The DOI was eventually assgined, and immediately the published version appeared on RG as a duplicate.
I linked the existing preprinton my account to the published version as Maik pointed out above, and still it appears as a preprint... how can I merge the two publications into the same one?
is there a way to contact the help center of RG?

@Maik, first, let me say that unless the DOI has been assigned to the publication you cannot link the preprint to the published version (nor you can update the preprint to the rank of a publication). that is why until today I could not update the preprint. that being said, I don't think your suggestion is a good solution: you have to declare the journal an article is published by! that would cause a lot of trouble, IMHO, e.g. could be considered as a false declaration. for the time being, I sent a request to the help center of RG of merging the preprint and the published version (and keeping the 1st one as the preferred one, since I don't want to lose the reads and all the statistics I have acquired so far with that preprint). I'll let you know if RG will fix my situation. best, Giulio
I agree with Robin. It is not possible to permanently delete preprints. My preprints are automatically doubled for some reason, and I cannot merge or delete them. RG needs to address this.
Yes.. you can delete the uploaded PDF but not the webpage itself for preprints. They really should develop a deduplication and merge system.
Robin, preprints and published articles are considered and treated as different within the current RG set up. It would be interesting to see whether there is an alternative, which allows for some linkage between the preprint, which most likely would have been uploaded before the final published article, and the ultimate publication. Interesting debate and discussion here.
I recently added a pre-print and a few months later a published version of the same work. Although RG keeps both available at my profile (and each has their own status), the pre-print version has now a link to the published version. This took a while to appear as it is, and all I have done is just make sure both has the same title and authors’ list.
