I am interested to measure the soil respiration by the alkali trapping method. In this method; co2 emission in a closed chamber is measured by trapping it in an alkali solution and then quantified by titrating it against standard acid. This process is mentioned in various research papers however I am unable to find the complete methodology as well as calculation procedure. Is there anybody who can help me out?
I have measured the CO2 emissions by titrating the NaOH. I estimated the CO2 emissions by the decreasing volume of NaOH in the chamber.
There is another simple and reliable method for carbon dioxide evolution measurement called soda lime method by Edwards (1982). I have used it before and found it easy to perform. A recent paper on the soda lime method can be found in Keith and Wong (2006). Soil Biology and Biochemistry 38: 1121-1131.
