How to measure pH of high concentration salt solution (17-19% NaCl solution)? Do we need a special pH meter specially designed for pH measurement in high concentration salt solutions? If yes, please advise a suitable instrument.
Thank you for the advice, Mr Duried Alwazeer. We used PCSTestr 35 (Eutech PCSTEST35-01X441506/Oakton 35425-10) for pH/T/TDS/EC measurement. The first use went smoothly but the indicated value began to become unstable during the next use. We estimate that if the sensor experiences an error due to the high concentration of NaCl solution.
The multiparameter portable testers are not generally recommended in research fields. These portable testers are appropriate for field-type measurements. I advise using a benchtop pH meter with a specific pH electrode for accurate pH measurements.
Hi Miranti Puspitasari , I found this reference for you. This reference mentions that "The use of glass electrodes to measure pH in concentrated NaCl solutions gives a misleadingly low indication of pH, and may introduce errors of up to 0.2 pH units". The error of measurement by the glass electrodes is relatively low (< 0.2 pH unit).
