The data rate and power budget of a wireless communication link is are related to each other by the Shanon law for the maximum channel capacity C:
C= B log2 (1+ S/N),
In order to increase the maximum data rate C you can increase the bandwidth or the power or reduce the noise of the receiver.
In order to increase C while reducing the power you have to increase the bandwidth and also you can decrease the noise.
As we see from the equation the increase of the bandwidth is more effective than the increase in power for increasing the data rate.
