i am working on fruit cuticle wax composition at harvesting stage through GC MS,and want to measure cuticle waxy layer thickness through SEM for comparison in two
varieties. (Scanning electron microscopy),i did SEM and got different pictures. (as outer most layer should be cuticle wax), but in my case the layer is looks thicker , making confuse. so anyone can help to figure out that problem and want to make different in layer according to attached pictures

I am not an expert in post-harvest science. But trough the images, I can say in the external layer, the cells have thick walls and the outer surface is covered with a waxy cuticle. However, the sample preparation does not seem to be fine, as the interior cells have been compressed and damaged. So, you may cut a slice then freeze-fracture it.

As external most layer should be the cuticle wax, but in my images so you can see clearly that its thicker, so it made me confuse that how can be a waxy layer thicker, so it may be cuticle including internal and external cuticle
Outlined structure on figure a is outer cell wall of exocarp cells. Magnification is too low to see the cuticle.
Alexandra Ivanova the images took at high magnification, and if i was want to use higher magnification then it was not clear to see
Scanning electron microscope is good instrument for study the cuticle surface and it is rarely used for cuticle section.
