Hello, anybody know how to isolate and extract Viral DNA from water sample?, I never do that but my research so far is by using ultra centrifuge to pelleted the virus and using filter for virus then take the filter and do DNA extraction. I only know that but never do that. Anyone know the protocol to do DNA extraction from water sample? thank you.

There are a number of DNA extraction kits available (such as AllPrep PowerViral DNA/RNA Kit from Qiagen) You can get more information from this paper "Hill et al., Development of a Nucleic Acid Extraction Procedure for Simultaneous Recovery of DNA and RNA from Diverse Microbes in Water, Pathogens 2015, 4, 335-354"
I think your question is same with isolation from bacteriophages (bacterial virus). You can read some lytic phages isolated from water sample, it will help you figure out how you will need to do.
