The killing capacity of some antibiotics is time-dependent, whereas it is concentration-dependent for others. For time-dependent antibiotics, the most important factor is the time that a therapeutic dose is spent above the MIC, whereas for concentration-dependent antibiotics, it is the ratio of the peak serum concentration to the MIC. Time dependent antibiotics include beta-lactams, carbapenemes, doxiciclin, tygeciclin, clindamicin, glycopeptides and linezolid.
Have you any experience on continuous infusions of antibiotics (apart from vanco) and practical suggestions (i.e., dosages, dilutions and speed of infusion) especially for beta-lactams and carbapenemes?
