How to incorporate thermal strains in nonlinear ANSYS model?

I want to use thermal strains to model expansion/contraction of a region in my model. However, thermal conditions make it impossible to use nonlinear adaptivity or to use the mesh convergence tool. Does anyone know a way around this? Can I use a thermal condition and still do some kind of remeshing to generate a converged solution?
