It happens to me now and then, that a selected student or applicant for a project work or position is much less performing than expected (fortunately the opposite happens as well). However I tried to established measures to evaluate and test before and keeping track on the performance of the students and applicants during their conduct, but somehow the method is not working satisfactorily and the "disaster" emerges only at the end of the work. What are your ways to find / select the right students and applicants for your projects in order to aviod disappointment and / or frustration on either or both sides? Do the traditional indicators still work (e.g. reports) or are there better ways and methods?
