I do not know how it is in Abaqus, but I see the same Problem sometimes in Ansys, too. There, 3D elements are created at meshing with a Jacobian Ratio < 0, i.e. they are some kind of inside-out. (You should see it when you view at one of the elements in question alone.) Happens when the mesher is not able to create a "good" mesh. If this is true with your mesh (you can check this after meshing), try to get a mesh with all elements having a Jacobian Ratio >0.

The elements distorted issue often happened on Abaqus explicit solver.

1.You can control the mass scaling and limit the max percent chng mass value(sat file).

2.Refine the element size.

In my opinion, you should control the contact properties and contact definition conditions. Furthermore, the type of element and the size of it are important parameters.

Convergence problems are frequently encountered. The following trials may improve the situation: changing an initial step value, changing the maximum allowable step value, change contact definition, changing friction coefficients, changing friction law, changing mesh density, changing mesh region, changing solver. For anti-vibration simulation, regular elements should be first considered, e.g. three-dimensional brick elements are superior to tetrahedron elements. T

I am using hexahedral elements, is that creating the problem? with tetrahedral elements file size in GBs. working with that size is hanging the computer.

hexahedral elements should be good and the other answers have mentioned the quality of the elements you used. Their comments need to be considered.

You should change your models' partition and use of hex-dominated elements for your parts. Also you should change your loading mechanism.

when plastic model was employeed in computing , errors often occurs . So fine mesh is recommanded. I mean the grid should obey th law in software such as : the ratio of two line is 1:1 or not large than 10:1

How you solved this error??

Smita Singh Defining correct boundary and loading conditions as well as material properties helped me in dealing with this error. By correct i mean realistic properties. Hope it helps
