I'm doing a research on the pyrolysis process, ans my indipendent variable is the heating rate. The problem is I don't know how to achieve a constant heating rate. Do i need a formula to know whow hot my reactor needs to be to achieve a specific heating rate? If so what is it? If there are other ways please rell me.
Certainly, a heating rate is one of the very important parameters in determining the by-products produced in a pyrolysis system. A heating rate can be comprehensively researched in kinetic study which is thermogravimetric (TGA) analysis. So, please try to conduct a TGA analysis.
If you using thermocouple or any other conductive wire to measure the temperature, the wire leads commonly distort the temperature measurement and the distortion can be large during rapid transients. The proper feedback system to controller to be installed. TGA instrument with a model: ATAT 2012 and software to this instrument is to be installed BJHENVEN. The simulation between controller and actual temperature must be work so that the fuel control furnace can be regulated.
As I understand from your question, you have fabricated a reactor for pyrolysis. However, the reactor you have designed works with an external heating source and maybe a tape heater or another type. If this is the case the heating rate is constant and the condition inside your reactor is approximately isothermal. That depends on how much material, particle size, and inert gas flow rate are used. If you are looking for non-isothermal conditions, you need to use a different heating rate process and you can achieve this goal by using TGA or using a furnace of different heating rates ((5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30°C/min).....etc.
