I am trying to find out the values of zero order anisotropy constant Ko. For cobalt ferrite and Co2MnSi. I am aware that these values are not that much useful in many studies, but these values are important for me as I am interested in polar plots of anisotropy energy.
Polar plots of magnetic anisotropy energy are indeed misleading or confusing when the anisotropy itself takes positive and negative values, depending on orientation. On the other hand, Zero Order Anisotropy Constant means nothing else but orientation-independent part of magnetic anisotropy energy, hence it is meaningless. Magnetic anisotropy energy (more precisely: density of such energy) is a kind of potential energy, thus only the differences between various directions make sense. Use any positive value making the plot nice looking and informative - if ZOAC is too high then your plot will be indistinguishable from circle.
I absolutely agree with Marek Wojciech Gutowski. I have built such plots and want to illustrate his advice by the following two pictures.
The left K0 = 0 and on the right K0 = 0.3. For the energy analysis the only important is the distance from the bottom of the deepest pit to the highest hump. Distance from the center to the bottom of the well (K0) does not matter.
