I am using work of indentation approach to find out the values of hardness of Ti and Inconel alloys using nanoindentation load-depth curves. I can find the formula for total work. Whereas for plastic work we have to subtract elastic work from total work. Is this right to calculate the elastic work by considering the curve to form a triangle and calculate its area to get the work done. The formula will then be:

W_e= 1/2 (base)(height)

I cannot find this formulation in any research article. Using this formulation, there is a very huge difference in values of hardness calculated through total work and plastic work approach.

Thank you for the help in advance.
