I've read in several places that the Qiagen RNA kit is the best one to use for extracting viral DNA from urine. Anyone had any experience of this or can explain why this is so?
If you are looking for a method to isolate viral DNA from urine with a high sensitivity especially if the viral load was low then you may consider using Urine DNA Isolation Kit (slurry Format) from Norgen Biotek which is the only that can isolate viral DNA from lare sample volume (up to 25mL urine). The advantage of using large sample volume is that you will be able to isolate your virus of interest even if the viral load was low. I personally tried it for the isolation of Hepatitis B virus
Thanks Moemen. since posting this I have successfully used a Qiagen DNA extraction and DNA quality was good and I detected some viruses. I'll look at the Norgen one for larger volumes. Thanks.
