I do not know the specific case. When you pump an optical active material, you get an emission spectra containing narrow spectral lines, broad emission band and a mixture of the two. From this spectrum you can go back to the state transitions and to the excited states responsible of the emission. To clarify better the emission prectum, you should pump at different excitation energies, i.e. excitation spectra. It is a long story which is called SPECTROSCOPY. Good luck, Giuseppe Baldacchini
