Hello, I am doing a research using DEFORM 2D. My case is to determine the influence of process parameters in MQL machining on the the residual stress while machining 42CrMo4 steel. How to estimate the heat transfer coefficient for different cooling and lubrication fluids at the tool-workpiece interface for the FEM simulation of MQL turning using DEFORM 2D software ?

the heat transfer coefficients are generally artificially increased, even in dry machining, in order to accelerate convergence of temperature field on the workpiece
in order to simulate different cooling conditions, i would not act on the coefficients but, rather, I would play with the boundary conditions (heat flow or temperature)
Maybe it will be possible to do a Temperature difference detection between two different Temperature sensors in your material?
If you are able to detect different Temperature profiles, you can do a Transient temperature thermomechanic FEM with Ansys? A different Approach could be the use of technical Phosphor which indicates different temperatures by fluorenscence effects.
Maybe you can powder your material with that Phosphors and detect different temperature situations while cutting?

My suggestion is to understand the temperature rise in the machining zone by different cooling and lubricating fluid with different thermal conductivity. In this regard, Eq. 1 in the attached paper may provide impetus to the understanding of the problem.
