You can calculate the partial eta squared effect size measure directly from the F statistic and degrees of freedom (which should be reported in the articles). If you google "calculate eta squared from F statistic", you should be able to find out how it's done. Partial eta squared can then be used in G*Power.

I agree with Christian's answer. Another option is the esc_f function in the esc R package, which will help you calculate different types of effect sizes from an F value and sample size.
