I’m trying to run a transient analysis in ansys using infinite elements. I model a halfsphere with soil properties I define at the beginning. The infinite elements (INFIN 257) are applied on the outer boundaries of the soil.

I read that the infinite elements in ansys only consider damping forces for a transient analysis. That’s why you should do a static analysis first, store the static reaction forces at the boundary and apply those forces again when you do the transient analysis (That’s what I do with the files read_RF & write_RF).

The model works for static analysis and linear transient analysis but as soon as I change the analysis type to transient & non-linear, the calculation doesn’t converge. Although the calculation converges, the solution for the linear transient analysis does not seem reasonable to me. (see attached picture)

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem? I’d be grateful for any help.
