Hi,
I wanted to know the fundamental basics of a meta analysis. I have read up and found many diff methods being applied to answer a given research question. I want to understand the below:
1. Procedure for how to extract data from literature?
2. Understand the type of data and how to select model (assumptions for selecting a particular test for heterogeneity, regression model i.e FE or RE )
3. Other basic statistical understanding of doing a meta analysis (use of effect size, handling standard error, others).
4. Tutorials for statistical packages for doing a meta regression in Stata/R studio/SPSS/other software
Please suggest readings or tutorials for this.

1) Data extraction: you can use the excel sheet; extract characteristics of the included studies: author, year , type of study, country, multicentre/single centre, total number and distribution of patient, exclusion and inclusion criteria, age, sex, ...etc
2) Generally; FE effect model is used when Hetrogeniety is low, RE when it is high
