I would like to do an acylation reaction using phenol and acetic acid. initially, the phenol should be dissolved in acetic acid before injecting it to the reactor, I have tried mixing 0.659 g phenol in 3 mL glacial acetic acid, without and with heating treatment at 40 Celcius degrees, but it doesn't work, the crystals didn't dissolve completely. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi Noerma Juli Azhari you could try to place the mixture in a vial and sonicate it for a few minutes in an ultrasonic bath. Chances are that this will result in a clear solution.
Phenols have weak acid properties
And I think that acetic acid cannot dissolve it directly
You can dissolve it initially using a little water, then you can dissolve by the acetic acid to conduct the acylation reaction.

Hi Noerma Juli Azhari, sorry to hear that sonification didn't work. Depending on the reaction conditions of your planned acylation recation, you might as well try to dissolve the phenol first in a small amount of an inert solvent (dichloromethane, diethyl ether) and the add the acetic acid.
