The unwarp direction is opposite to the phase encoding direction. This should be written in the dicom header and the acquisition parameters (look for something like "AP"/"PA"/"LR" etc). You can also usually infer it from the image itself, i.e. look at the eyes - they would appear stretched outward if the phase encoding direction was posterior-anterior. If in doubt, use trial and error until the distortion in the images is corrected.
