I'm running a 2 x 2 between-subjects ANOVA with the setup in the attached image (kindly refer to JPG attachment).
I understand that calculating simple effects involves determining differences in one IV according to another HIV, hence comparisons in the matrix between A & B, B & D, C & D, C & A. These are "vertical" and "horizontal" comparisons in the matrix.
However, what if I want to know the significance of the difference between A & D, which are at different levels of both IVs? The simple effects output on SPSS won't tell me that, since it's a "diagonal" contrast in the matrix. Would appreciate your help in figuring this out.
When you do the interaction between the two variables, you will have the chance to compare your diagonal!!.
Medhat Elsahookie how do I generate the p-value for the diagonal difference on SPSS? I can't seem to figure it out. I can only get p-value for the horizontal and vertical differences.
You will get for variable a, variable b, and their interaction : ab!! It is simple, so simple, 2x2 table.
