Hello, we have solvent purifier system in our lab. But There is some unwanted results for our experiment. We are suspecting purity of solvents. Are there any simple methods to detect water in THF?
Dear Berkay Şahin, the simplest technique is based on measuring the refractive index increment but I couldn't find a reference right now. The following documents use NMR and colorimetry. My Regards

The presence of water or other molecules dissolved in THF can change the refractive index of the solvent. So a simple refractive index measurement allows you to check the purity of your solvent. If the refractive index of THF is different from 1.408 then it should be purified. If the If the vial has already been opened, it contains impurities, mainly hydroperoxides and peroxides which may explode if dried or concentrated.
