You may also want to consider defining a contact thickness for your sph particles, as they have no associated contact thickness. (Use ‘SST’ parameter in the *CONTACT card), otherwise interaction will not occur until the particle penetrates the segment (which is not correct due to the smoothing length, etc)
If the velocity is high, the default penalty stiffness may also need adjusting to prevent excessive penetrations.
Another consideration is to perhaps reduce the timestep (TSSLFAC on *Control_Tilmestep), as default 0.9 may be too large...
