I am trying to model a variable thickness composite part in LS-DYNA and I am unsure on how to implement this. I have used PART_COMPOSITE in the past when testing with a composite part with the same through thickness, but I am having issues when trying to apply a variable thickness to a nonuniform through thickness part. I have tried using ELEMENT_TSHELL_COMPOSITE to assign variable thickness per element but I do not know how to make each element tapered and not have a uniform through thickness.
I am not sure that following indications can help you, but may be.
Shell elements allow the variable thickness (thickness at the points of the shell applied in the section card). You may see it in the following video:
