i have two parallel beams the lower is fixed at both ends the upper at one end only. when the upper comes down by its weight it passes the lower with no touch!!!
how can i define a contact to meke the beams see one another? thanks for help I really need that.

Try by creating 2 beams with 0.01mm one below the other. This will make it as different beams but will touch when loaded a little.

You can use Contact pair option available in ANSYS as in the following steps:
preprocessor- modeling-create-contact pair
then you should choose the contact and target surfaces based on some criteria such as which on is stiffer.
