I want to purchase well characterized MDR strains of a Gram-negative bacterium from ATCC to look at modes of resistance. I am also going through literature to see if people have purchased a particular type of that bacterium. Are there key points in the product information sheets to look at to make it easier to decide?
If you are to study the modes of resistance in gram negative bacteria .. and if your study is based on a genomic approach..
I would suggest using ATCC or MTCC strain as a Positive control (SENSITIVE ISOLATE) and study resistance profiling among clinical isolate.
Because different levels of mutation causes different pattern of resistance. And Most MDR strains have varied levels of efflux pump expression which is based on various mutations. .. So what ever ATCC or MTCC MDR isolates u take it may have varied levels of Amino acid changes that leads in MDR. So Usually I hope people use ATCC and MTCC isolates as a positive control and use clinical isolates to study modes of resistance
If your so keen to study resistance profiling on ATCC or MTCC isolates then as you mentioned earlier its best to see literature
