Reliability depends on the characteristics of the channel such as the type of environment and so on. Efficiency depends on several factors such as your Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), Throughput, Latency, and Interference. So, there is a transitive relationship that channel determines all these parameters. Reliability does not depend on the capacity of the channel. In fact, more is the capacity, more number of noise components will be added to the signal. However, traditional techniques have been there to mitigate these effects even with larger capacity effects.

Your reliability depends on a variety of factors. It depends on how good your signal processing technique is, how good your signal characteristics are (for example, WiFi vs. UWB), and how good is your overall transceiver system. Reliability is nothing but getting the highest possible performance despite channel effects. And the above mentioned factors are dependent on the degree of reliability. Hope this clarifies. As the Shannon's formula stated, the Signal to Noise ratio (S/N) is the measure of the reliability, e.g. as it is increasing the reliability and data rate are also increasing. Nevertheless, there are different factors that are separately affecting the both.
