After synthesis, you should try to run your process introducing Silica (Sand works perfectly) and Water inside your bowl.

If you need, there is the protocole i use for a Pulverisette 6 (Fritsch) Planetary ball mill (ZrO2 mill and balls) as a washing process after milling (Carbon milled samples) :

With a 45 mL ballmill holder (ZrO2) I personnally introduce 1/3 (vol) of 5mm diameter balls (ZrO2)

Then I fill the bowl with sand (reaching 2/3 of the bowl with the volume of "Sand+balls").

Finally I introduce water until it's no longer absorbed by the sand, I close the bowl and run the process for 10-15 min.

After washing, you should observe that Graphite has been removed from mill Walls.

You may clean with diluted HF .

HF may clean the mill walls but regarding both dangerousness of this acid and potential long term degradation of the mill by reaction of HF with ZrO2 to form ZrF4, i think softer solutions should be considered first.

You can use either silica (sand) or broken glass pieces for this purpose.

You are right if not much diluted HF is used. But if you use diluted HF say 2% HF followed by thorough rinsing with water then it would hardly cause the degradation to the mill.
