Following modified hummers method (graphite + sulfuric acid + KMnO4 + NaNO3 + DI water + H2O2) , i got brown powder.

i do not know whether it is Graphite oxide or Graphene oxide.

1. Is there any method (analysis) that i can distinguish them?

(I already have IR data of synthesized brown powder and precursor graphite)

2. I saw someone explain that the result product of hummers method is graphite oxide and graphene oxide can be made by sonication of it , is it true ?

3. If 2 is true, when dispesion medium (ex DI water) is removed , is there any chance that GO sheet reversely form layered graphite oxide ?

Thank you for your time.
