Triaxial test usually conducted in two stages, in the first stage the soil shall be consolidated under the all round confining pressure and in the second stage shear applied by increasing an additional axial load until failure occurs. The pre-consolidation pressure can be calculated from effective confining pressure vs compression curve. Identify the maximum curvature point from this curve, draw a horizontal line from the maximum curvature point, draw a tangent line to this point and again draw a bisector line between these two line. Now, you draw a tangent line from the bottom steep slope and move this line to join in bisector line..Now, finally drop a vertical downward line from this point corresponding to the effective confining pressure shall be the pre-consolidation pressure. Based on this pre-consolidation pressure we can classify the clay soil whether it is under consolidated, normally consolidated and over consolidated clay..ok all the best in your research..

You measure compression reading during the first stage consolidation and applied confining pressure is know to you..you repeat the next trail test with increase in confining pressure like this you continue with more trail test..the maximum compression (reduction in voids i.e. void ratio) and confining pressure is known to you..now you can draw a curve i.e. compression in y-axis and confining pressure in x-axis..now, you can find pre-consolidation pressure from this curve..ok all the best..

Conduct a 3D Consolidation under confining pressure increments with maximum pressure equal to ko condition i.e. depth at which sample was collected. Determine pc by Schmertmann method.
