If I have odds ratio calculated for several exposures-outcomes in one analysis, is there a way to calculate how many of them would be expected to be significant by chance alone?
Also, what is the process called so I can search using the right term?
At a given confidence (significance) level of x%, by definition if there are n separate exposure-outcome comparisons, then nx/100 would be "significant 'by chance.
the attached extract from Rothman and Greenland Modern Epidemiology 2nd ed 1998 gives a good lead in to this complex area.
