Most scientific papers have stated the formula for extraction yield calculation like this, The yield of extract (extractable components) expressed on dry weight basis of pulp was calculated from the following equation: Yield (g/100 g) = (W1 × 100)/W2 where W1 is the weight of the extract residue obtained after solvent removal and W2 is the weight of peel or pulp taken . Can any one let me know with example.
A nice example is presented in the Wikipedia concerning coffee extraction & it is applicable to other systems since number of components are extracted and not a single component.

Firstly the plant and the extracts should be dried completely ( no any trace of the moisture and solvents remain).Yield% =Wt. of the dry extract x 100/ Wt of the dry plant.But it is NOT single component ( it is a mixture,take TLC).
weight of dry extract/weight of dry plant* 100
the method of drying can be
- air dried
- oven dried
- freeze dried
etc
The yield of extraction can be calculated by following equation:
Y(yield)=100We/Wt
where We and Wt stand for the weight of completely dried extract and parts of plant which is undertaken of extraction, respectively.

But when the plant is in wet or fresh form while extract in dry form then how to calculate
yield(%)= weight of the dry extract after solvents have been removed/ weight of the dry plant before extraction * 100 . the yield in this case is crude not fractionated
drying can be
1. air dry
2. sun dry
3. freeze dry
4. oven dry
the best drying should be at open air shade to remain most of volatile compounds ( essential oils).
